uncharted territory

This is our sweet boy, Henry at the cousins' birthday party.  He thought these glasses were hysterical, and I have to give it to him.  It was pretty funny.

Over the last several weeks, Henry has become even more sweet.  I don't know if he is just realizing that he loves me or what, but he just hugs and smiles and looks at me with such affection that it would melt your heart.  He will just run to hug me and it is the best.

Last night, he lost his ever-lasting mind.  We will call it "possessed by ear infection."  He has had an ear infection {double,in fact} and fever before, but last night was unprecedented.  By bedtime he had had his second dose of amoxicillin and several rounds of Advil and went to bed fine.  Then he heard him coughing at 9:30pm and until 10:15pm he was just making enough noise for us to know that he was having trouble falling back to sleep.  Not crying....yet.

Decision time :: your child has been awake, not crying nor particularly unhappy sounding, but awake for 45 minutes in the night.  Do you go in and check on him?  Keep in mind that we haven't been into Henry's room during the night since he was 6 or 7 months old.  We just haven't needed to.  So, the thought of going in there struck fear in my heart - what would he do?  would it make matters worse?

The answers are :: stay up for 3 more hours off and on crying and "YES", respectively.

After several trips into his room to hug him, calm him down, try to rock him to sleep {which I have never done in his life}, we eventually just had to let him cry.  Flashback to the baby days.....that just sent shivers down my spine.  Finally at 12:54am, he was asleep.

Pray for us, people.
