assessment

Yesterday was my first conference call with Marilyn Maslin. I have hired her company to do some career counseling and it's official, I love this kind of thing. I did not love having to do my resume. There is all this pressure to make the tasks you did sound inflatedly important or yourself more skilled than you maybe are. What I did love was the behavior assessment through PDPWorks. It's similar to the DISC assessment for those of you who are familiar with that. I have a few more conference calls with Marilyn and I'm pretty pumped to see more of what she has to say. My goal is not necessarily to end up with a job at the end of this process. You know me, I like to have a plan, so I just want to have some insight into where I might be headed career-wise.

Not much surprised me about the results of my assessment:
  • I don't like to play games, but when I do I just want it to be fun. I'm not out to dominate you and drive you into the ground
  • I'm right on the line between Extroversion and Introversion - She described me as "Mid-Western neighborly." What, you don't know that that means? Well, me neither. It means that I'm not going to talk too much everytime I see you, but I will say hello. Not overly chatty. {Sometimes, I am known to be chatty, hence me being right on the line}
  • I'm methodical and a good listener
  • I don't want my name on something that hasn't been done well
  • According to the assessment, I'm balanced between being Factual and Feeling in my logic. 80% of people in the country are Feeling based and of the 20% remaining, most are Factual and some are balanced like me. For example, that means that when I'm buying a toaster I'm somewhere between the person who has studied Consumer Reports and read labels to find the BEST toaster {Factual, analytical} and the one who picks one because I just like it and it will match my kitchen {Feeling, intuitive}
The assessment also yields what's called an Energy Level - truly how much energy you have. The average person on the bell curve scores a 3.5. Mine tested as 4.2 naturally {who I am in a perfect world} and 5.2 over the last several months. I've always thought of myself as a productive person, but it seems I actually have more energy than the average person. Weird and VERY interesting, particularly the part about the last several months. Marilyn said this could mean that I am doing tasks and paying attention to details that I wouldn't have a couple of months ago in my attempts to be super-productive with my time now that I have more of it. I chuckled.

Here is a list of the small and un-important things I have done or want to do in our house:

  • Bought this Closetmaid Metal Drawer to put books in at my bedside table. I was SUPER inspired by our friend Anna Dozier's decorating style. She has crates like this around her house. So fresh and a great way to display books.
  • Cleaning out our kitchen drawers to find room for this....a Modular In-Drawer Knife Rack from Williams-Sonoma {doesn't it look glorious?!}

  • New laundry bins for Petey's closet and mine {less glorious, but I like them}

  • Replace the outlets in our kitchen with GFCI outlets
  • Clean out our book collection and give away the duplicates
  • Clean out my closet

I feel pretty certain that I could go on, but won't. This could get out of hand. :)

Trying to channel my energy, LY

  1. Hmmm, I wonder how I would rank on those tests?

    Also, I have that same knife rack, and I love it, it's a good home for my super cool Shun knives :)

  3. I thought you had a conference call with Marilyn Manson. I was tripped out about that, but I re-read :)

    I hope she doesn't tell you to be the president. That would be stressful.
